Hello!
Welcome to my blog. I'm Jess if you couldn't tell by the name.

This is a blog about music and art events happening around Colorado...mostly Boulder since I live there.

I'm a live music junkie so if that's what you're into than this is a place for you!

rollingstone:

Three nights before he was killed on December 8th, 1980, John Lennon sat down with Rolling Stone to give what would be his final interview. The “joyous, outrageously funny, inspiring, fearless and subversive” conversation (which was never fully transcribed and printed until just last year) paints a vivid and candid picture of a timeless talent. Lennon was on the verge of public reemergence after stepping away from the spotlight to be with his family when he was tragically murdered on the way home from a mixing session at the age of 40. To honor the 31st anniversary of John Lennon’s passing and read about the days before his death, check out the complete interview on RollingStone.com.

Go to Blind Pilot tonight at the Bluebird Theater
My roommate introduced me to this band and I found that I really liked them.  They’re an American indie folk band with a really nice mellow sound.  Check them out.

Feed Africa Game

For my Processing programming class we had to create a game based on a social issue.  I wanted to take the negative effects from shooter games and turn it into something more positive that reinforces good values as opposed to killing.  In my game, instead of shooting, the character (my sister) is tossing apples to African children thereby feeding them.  Move the character left and right with the arrows and hit the spacebar to toss apples.  Make sure to click in the box first to give it focus. Enjoy!

Happy Halloween! Celebrate it right with the sold out Motet show at the Boulder Theater.

40 Plays
Paul Simon
Me And Julio Down By The School Yard

And since Paul Simon didn’t play "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard" I figured I’d post it for a good listen.

Paul Simon

Paul Simon at the 1stBank Center

An excellent evening, Paul Simon brought me back in time with his classic hits intertwined with songs from his new album.  Unlike many contemporary artists today, he did well by not over complicating his stage.  His simple presence and good music was more than enough to evoke excitement throughout the crowd.  At 70 years old he proved he still had it in him to put on a great show and I know so many of his long lasting fans appreciated that.  I feel lucky and honored to have witnessed one of the few greats we still have left.  It reminded me of how important it is not to forget where music today has come from and how fantastic that music was, and is.  One of my favorite moments of the night was my ecstatic surprise when he played those first few notes of “Only Living Boy in New York.”  It’s such a great song and I never imagined I would get to see it live.  Check out these other great songs he played last night and I’ll be posting some of my own photos up on the Facebook page:
